What is Genius?by Dr. Tony Alessandra Paul MacCready is a writer and inventor who has carefully studied genius and the ways people understand that concept. MacCready has evolved several categories of what genius seems to mean, and these can be useful starting point for defining what genius really is. In the first category is what Paul MacCready calls the “everyone agrees” geniuses. These people are the great icons of civilization, including Einstein, Leonardo daVinci, Shakespeare, and Michelangelo. Is there anybody who believes Einstein wasn’t a genius? I don’t think so — so this category is for the geniuses who are elected by unanimous consent. These are many of the same people who were mentioned in my own informal research. We’ll have much more to say about them in this session and throughout the program. In fact, most of our models for the various genius categories will be drawn from this group. MacReady’s second category is the officially designated geniuses. These are the people who have won Nobel Prizes or other highly respected awards. Whether or not we understand what they’ve accomplished, we think of them as geniuses based on their recognition by people who are supposed to know one when they see one. A third category includes people who haven’t yet gained national or international prominence, but who have done something so remarkable that they seem to be in a different realm from ordinary mortals. Some of these are the prodigy young people I mentioned earlier in this session — students who have won national science contests or gotten perfect scores on standardized tests. Often they’re not the best in the day to day conduct of school or business, but they have some special gift that eventually reveals itself. Quite often, these people are underachievers who struggle with Shyness and low self-esteem. Their surprising success is surprising only because they’ve deliberately tried to stay in the background. I think you can see how each of these three categories seems quite Legitimate — but it’s the fourth one that’s really most important for this program. And you may be surprised to learn that the fourth category questions or even completely refutes the other three. Because the fourth category includes everybody. It’s based on the idea that we all have the potential for achievements that are wrongly considered possible for only a few. And there’s plenty of evidence for this. After all, the physical and mental challenges of learning to walk and talk are more difficult than anything we face later in life — yet the vast majority of human beings meet these challenges successfully. True, it’s been argued that these primary skills are hardwired into our genetic makeup. But there are many things that the genetic argument can’t account for. In the 17th and 18th centuries, for example, it was simply expected that every member of the educated class would be able to read and speak several different languages, write poetry, play a musical instrument, and know much of the Bible by heart. Furthermore, all these skills were performed at a very high level and at very early ages. In other words, thousands of people routinely displayed abilities that today would be considered truly amazing — and perhaps even evidence of genius. But in those days what we call genius was just the fulfillment of society’s expectations. When we speak of everybody being a genius in this sense, it doesn’t mean everyone has to get 800s on their SATs or have an IQ of 150 or above. It doesn’t mean everybody can play the violin or create beautiful oil paintings. Those are other ways of looking at the concept of genius. But right now, let’s go back to the origin of the word itself. A researcher by the name of Thomas Armstrong has done some excellent work on this. He points out that the word genius is closely related to the word genesis. It comes from Greek and Latin words meaning “beget,” “be born,” or ” come into being.” It’s also related to the word genial, meaning “festive” or “jovial.” In the Middle East, the term has been linked to the word jinni, or genie, the magical power that lay dormant and hidden in Aladdin’s lamp until a secret method released it. Combining all these roots leads to a very powerful and beautiful definition of genius. It means “giving birth to your joy.” In this sense, genius is a word for an individual’s hidden potential. It also includes the process of discovering that potential and transforming it into action. But the first step is belief. The first step is certainty that you have greater capabilities than you thought. Not only do you have those capabilities — you also have a responsibility to develop them and put them to use. Dr. Tony Alessandra has authored 13 books, recorded over 50 audio and video programs, and delivered over 2,000 keynote speeches since 1976. I believe I will be successful, I think!
If I say your life will become what you believe you will probably say that you know that.
If I say you don’t believe what you think you believe you might ask how so?
For the last ten years I have worked closely with entrepreneurs. People who want to start their own business and want to improve the quality of their lives and have more control.
What I have discovered is that they constantly prove over and over that what they fundamentally say they believe is actually not the case and it comes as a shocking surprise to many.
Discovering this illusion about themselves proves very exciting because once they see this they can then make some adjustments to their 16 Hour power slot (from my book Power Surge).
How do you affirm what you truly believe?
Well the fact is that your mind contains billions of differing possibilities about what you believe based on all the pieces of information that have been fed to you through your eyes and ears. So it’s not a case of trying to go through your mind thought by thought, you would end up in an asylum.
Life as it is for you is presently your dominant beliefs.
Taking a very simplistic example, this means that if there are one billion thoughts suggesting you can get in shape and there are one billion and one thoughts suggesting you can’t then it means that everything will conspire to make sure you can’t.
The outside must prove the inside because it is the place from which it takes its instructions.
Successful breakthrough, using why
Whatever you do and whatever you put resources to whether it be time, money or energy, always ask a fundamental question:-
Why am I doing this?
You may find that you have to keep asking until you reach the core motivation behind your impulse to do it.
Example:
“I need to make some extra money so we can have a holiday.”
WHY?
“Because we really need to get away.”
WHY?
“Because me and my wife and have been arguing a lot lately and the break will do us good.”
WHY are you arguing?
“When we are busy we have less time to think about the other person and we end up snapping and communicating badly.”
Why will a holiday fix this?
“Because we will have time to be nice to each other.”
FACT: The holiday will heal the sores from the bad mouthing each other but unless the ‘busy ness’ is resolved everything will happen again when the holiday is over.
FACT: The solution ALWAYS LIES EXACTLY WHERE THE PROBLEM IS.
Once you have listened to your WHY? always check your facts as well so you can decide what is the best solution and whether the solution you see is actually based on fact or just an idea that you think can work!
Never assume because your life experience is too precious
Checking Your Facts – example
“It’s time to change the design of my business website.”
WHY?
“Because my sales have gone done.”
WHY do you think the drop in sales is the website?
“Because maybe people are tired and want something new.”
WHY do you think they are tired and want something new?
“Because I’m tired of it so they must be! “***Aha the real motivation!***
FACT: Sales were UP with this website
FACT: No customers were asked their opinion to justify the change.
FACT: The words that come from your mouth. “Because I’m tired of it…”
Now, having established that you feel tired of your website this can be a valid reason for change. If you don’t believe this site will sell any more then it will EFFECT the outcome.
However, considering you have now discovered the true motivation for changing your site, you could find yourself able to change ‘your feelings… of being tired of it’ now you know the facts.
The reason for asking yourself questions is that you get the words directly from your database and you need to listen verbatim in every occasion. Your words are life and death to your experience.
Laws of nature; children always ask why!
Asking why has always been an essential part of our natural design. We start as children with a pure formula for prosperity. We are free to believe anything is possible. If you have children or remember being a child you will note that children start out by asking WHY? to everything…. everything! There is a crucial reason. To train ourselves to know why we are doing things so we can control ourselves (and our prosperity).
However, a child, though able to dream up a sports car that can go to outer space, cannot buy one. The child in you has exercised its right to be creative and dream but the practical part of actually owning the car has to come from the adult.
So, we grow up and can now independently open a bank account and can go to the car showroom without being accompanied by a guardian and can legitimately drive the car away (having passed our driving test).
Great Plan!
However what tends to happen is that once we grow up, the WHY? training has been knocked out of us by adults who, when asked the question “Why is it green mum?” tend to dismiss us the more we ask. Or we got a simple “Because!”
It becomes apparent that asking why is not popular at an age when we are most sensitive to tone, vibrations and are most vulnerable in general. Children know when adults are not happy and as a child is trained to pursue happiness, it is easier to stop asking.
Then as we grow up, our world gets busier. The why is forgotten about and chaos ensues. The more unhappiness ensues the more we think life won’t get better, the more we invest in all kinds of vices and self-development material in a desperate plea to rid ourselves of our unhappy situations…
…but asking WHY? can rock your world, literally!
What will I discover by asking why?
- You are busy with things that will never bring a reward;
– You don’t want the things you think you want;
– Your actions are actually the opposite of what you say you want;
– You can cut out a great deal of activity and investment you don’t need to do.
The Bible states a clear path to prosperity…
“Except ye become as little children, ye will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven.”
“If you stop the natural behaviour of the child within you, you will not prosper.”
The Universal Creator made us on purpose, stages of our lives were created ‘on purpose’… child, adolescent, adult, senior. Each stage holds keys to what we need to carry forward to the next stage to enlarge our joy and prosperity.
Today ask WHY? to everything no matter how obvious you THINK it is. You will be shocked and enlightened.

It is fair to say that most of the tiredness or feeling of exhaustion that we sense when we think about change is in fact ‘resistance’. We so often think it is “easier said than done” but in actual fact.. “It IS easier done than said”. Disagree? Take the situation where you are procrastinating about making a dental appointment. How many seconds does it take to pick up the phone and dial the number… opposed to… considering all the ways to get out of it because of: - the money it costs, In the meantime, the appointment would have been booked and you would have committed to it right? Resistance is a powerful force in our lives. It is the enemy working in conflict with everything we believe we are hoping for. As we are not consciously aware of just how much it dominates our thinking and our actions, it takes us for everything we have. We think we are tired or we think this ‘bad feeling’ is because it won’t work, can’t work, shouldn’t work, is not due to work… and it causes the perfect shield and distracts us elsewhere. It shields us from victory over the changes that we beat ourselves up about because we feel they should be so easy and sound so simple to complete. The reality is that because we can’t see the enemy of resistance, we don’t prioritise its dissolution but there are fun and exciting ways to dissolve a great deal of the retardation in your energy fields and clear your resistance!

Success in your hands, don’t blow it!
Your words are bringing life or death and you pay the price.Most of the things you may have been reading or listening to about bringing on your success and victory may not have really registered deep down where the profound re-programming begins. This may be BECAUSE you can’t see the power in what you are being asked to do. For the most part you may still only trust what you can see. Even though the science of personal development lays down a precise and exact instruction of how to behave to attract wealth and abundance, the changes you need to make may not be happening because somewhere inside you you don’t BELIEVE in the power of some things you are asked to do. Perhaps you believe that they are just too simple to create the impact you need. Well the exciting fact remains that opportunity is still available to you. I once heard an I.T. technician frustratingly claim that he wished humans were more like computers. What he hadn’t realised is that computers are a perfect expression of human behaviour in as much as they are perfectly predictable – you will get out exactly what you put in. Every program and software package (which provides the source of the power ‘to create’ was built by a human and therefore mirrors how a human thinks and operates. Microsoft Windows did not create itself, a human told it how to operate and therefore it works the way the designer WROTE it based on the way the designed thinks. If it didn’t work the way he thinks then he could not understand it to work on it! Computers will do exactly as they are programmed and they are programmed with WORDS. When a programmer gets an error and a page doesn’t load online he/she goes to the ‘source code’ and studies the code. I can confirm from designing websites myself that going through the code to find a specific error is much more of an ardous task than taking the time to write and check that it is correct when it is first committed to site! It is the same for our lives. Start re-writing correct versions of what you want today and it will overwrite the conflicting instructions from the past. Don’t waste energy trying to figure out where things are going wrong, start writing powerfully from this moment on. So the critical question is the source of your language killing everything all day long or giving life to situations? If it has been destroying..? NO PROBLEM! It has passed. You cannot change it BUT you can start writing a new future today. However, to do this you have got to take control of yourself which is the fundamental difference between those that live the life they choose and those that live the life they are held randsom by (or at least how they see it). It is hard to control my mouth! Well let’s see how true this really is for you? - If Donald Trump called you right now, and regardless of how stressful your circumstances, would you change how you speak? - When your young children speak to you do you at least start to think about choosing different words? - If somebody you want to impress shows up do you speak differently? YES? Then clearly you can change your vocabulary when you have a good enough reason… … so the question is not how hard is it but how much do you want things to get better? The ability to take control is not determined by your upbringing, background and education. When computers were first set up they were based on a programming language called “BASIC” and this language was enough to instruct anything to happen. If you can speak, write and think you have established a BASIC ability to create and therefore have the same potential than anyone else to create anything you desire. Watch what you do with your words today… will your words give life to better experiences or bring about death and destruction? Listen to yourself, it’s the only way to find out and start to change it. If you are too caught up in opening your mouth without thinking and really struggling then ask those closest to you to tell you when you are causing destruction with your mouth. Bottom line is, don’t let it continue words are the most phenomenal resource you have that costs you no amount of money but will TRANSFORM YOUR WORLD and attract the success you want. Life is essentially an illusion but it has taken us the best part of the last century to discover this… but now we know! The ways we have tried to fix the problems could never really have worked. One of the fundamental illusions is that we have not understood that we must ‘give to get’ because our giving is a concrete demonstration to the creative force of how SERIOUS we are about this activity (if you have read Power Surge then I remind you about your Crew). Let’s use ‘business’ as an example to demonstrate this principle. A business’ success is dependent on how many ‘satisified’ customers it can secure. The income from any business is presently in the hands of customers and they will not part with that money until you have offered something to them to add to the benefit of their life. Furthermore, if that benefit continues to be on offer and satisfies all the customers’ needs in terms of availability, price, delivery, adding more pleasure to the person’s life… then an exchange is secured and will continue. The reason why I use business as an example is because it gives us an opportunity to detach and look objectively at this life changing principle.
We want more from life but we are not prepared to give more and I hasten to jump in here quickly and stop you from imagining ‘giving more’ requires anything more than you already have. This is a total MISCONCEPTION BY YOU. The Universal Bank works on the principle that you will attract that which you are. If you are a ‘taker’, the outside world will constantly ‘take’ from you. If you are sitting evaluating whether you believe yourself to be a taker or a giver, make sure that when you take into account your actions you include your thoughts and feelings ASWELL (this might change the picture somewhat!). So many times we give a material resource but what we are truly thinking and feelings could be in complete contradiction! You have the opportunity to start a new life today. Forget the past, let it go, what’s good about it will pay off anyway, start afresh and here’s how:- 1. Be a radical giver of your time, energy and resources. Let go of waiting until everything is perfect. 2. The Universe can only work with a channel initiated BY YOU. It doesn’t matter what that channel is.. it could be a conversation, a thought, a flyer, a letter, an email, a gift, a helping hand. Treat every resource you have which you can serve someone as a bag of magic dust. Stop deciding whether you think it is good enough or perfect enough. You have absolutely NO IDEA what the universe can do with it but if you don’t do anything we can determine what the Universe will do with it! BIGGEST MISTAKE YOU MAKE EVERY DAY We fail to serve the world on a daily basis because generally speaking we are too self absorbed. Our daily lives are focused on taking care of ourselves so we do not serve. Not sure? Well think about what you did with your time, energy and resources yesterday. Was it all about you??? Let me provoke your conclusions and offer a little to help to get clearer about your level of service:- Breakfast – YOU Children? You might argue that even the children are not about you but if you sit down and get real about this you will find that ultimately whatever you did it was ultimately intended to make you feel good. Did you go next door and offer to look after the neighbour’s children??? If not, ask why and you will see that it is because they are not yours right? You think working a job is serving? Ask the question that if your company didn’t pay you would you still go in? No? Then really the motivation is your pay check… i.e. you again. Even if we think about serving whether it is a friend or in business, we get caught up in the ‘where this will go’ and this is NOT your domain, this is where the corruption in your efforts occurs. If you have a business you have already experienced this I am sure. THE DESTRUCTION IN PERFECTION Maybe you are looking at your internet business and you are not putting out resources into the public domain to serve because you feel it’s not good enough. You are waiting until you have studied all the internet materials, you need to understand how to gleen millions in traffic, and you can’t put up your site because you haven’t figured out how to capture all the customer details… and on and on it goes. So guess what… nothing happens. * You share nothing; WHAT IS GOING TO RADICALLY TRANSFORM EVERYTHING FOR YOU. Imagine the Universal Creative Force as Big Brother. All the Big Guy is doing is STUDYING THE NATURE OF YOUR THOUGHT, YOUR FEELING AND WHETHER THERE WAS A PHYSICAL ACTIVITY and then he is going to mirror this back to your reality in the form of your experience. Your level of service determines how much you want to be served. The creative force matches your efforts and before you fall into that trap again of concluding what you consider ‘effort’ to mean, I remind you that the effort to send an email containing a sincere, heart felt compliment when you want to complain is CONSIDERABLE so don’t dismiss its power. Attitude is something we choose and is totally under our control. Adopt a totally non-selfish attitude to having all your selfish needs met. You might even want to play the most powerful game you can play for the most exciting stakes??? What game? From the moment you get up, clock as many acts of service as you can (without counting the cost to you or more importantly, trying to figure out where the return will come or whether it will make a difference… …because even if you do try to figure it out, your possibilities will be very limited compared to what can come if you just get out of the way. But remember… the universe has access to your thoughts and feelings… your focus is “How can I help you with everything I have?”.. if you have a specific expectation in return, forget it, you just lost a point! GIVING IS A DYNAMIC WITH NO EXPECTATIONS ATTACHED. Many people think they have grasped this but I can see from behaviour that they haven’t. It means once you have offered up (a compliment, something material, or some activity) you must leave it alone. NO analysis. Serve and you will be served. Do unto others what you would have done unto you. It is a scientific based formula which means there are no exceptions, no background, education or financial requirements that block it from happening to you.
